Mark E. Silverman was born in Springfield, Ohio. After receiving
an undergraduate bachelor's degree from Ohio State University, he
attended the University of Chicago School of Medicine and Guy's
Hospital in London, England, graduating in 1963. From 1966 to 1968,
he was an NIH research cardiac fellow at Emory University under
the direction of J. Willis Hurst, MD. Dr. Silverman served in the
US Air Force at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base
in California from 1968-1970. He returned to Atlanta in 1970 to
become the Emory-Piedmont Professor of Medicine and to establish
a cardiology program at Piedmont Hospital. He practices consultative
cardiology, directs the noninvasive (EKG, echo, stress testing)
laboratories, and is Chief of Cardiology at the Fuqua Heart Center.
